Version 6 of Cad File Converter has been released with over 70 supported CAD, BIM, PDF and 3D formats and many other new features. We describe below the most important.
Map2Cad is a module of Domus.Cad Pro and Std, which enables you to import both satellite and road maps from Google Maps.
Maps are imported with actual measurements and represented in the video scale selected in Domus.Cad.
The main features of Map2Cad are:
- Internal browser for viewing maps, with the Google Maps functions integrated
- Import of maps
- Managing a list of maps
- Inserting the maps from the list into Domus.Cad
- Maps are imported with actual measurements
The use of Map2Cad is very simple and allows for the integration of each of the Google maps features in Domus, including search functions, display choices, street view and more.
On the left, a list of previously imported maps appears.
Version 2.1 of Domus.Cad Pro and Std, a complete BIM, parametric architectural 3D CAD, was released.
Major novelties include:
- New “smart” inspector
- OpenBim IFC 2×3 support
- DXF, DWG, DWF and SVG import/export improvements
- New RoofTiles module for creating 3D roof tiles
- New Super2Dto3D module for easy and fast converting a 2D drawing to 3D model
- New Map2Cad module for getting maps from Google Maps
- SuperPipe and SupeRot improvements
- Optimization for new operating system
- New documentation with several movies
- ..and many more
See details below.
We’re presenting here a list of “things to look for” specifically aimed at those with experience of other CAD programs who might appreciate special guidance for Domus.Cad. The following points highlight specific areas and draw attention to what makes the program unique compared to others.
Any busy design studio nowadays needs many different kinds of software – a plain old design program just isn’t enough anymore!
The solution of many manufacturers has been to keep adding on different functions to the original software – design-through-production-through-application in a single, often unwieldy program. Autocad, Microstation and ArchiCad are examples.
The alternative is to develop state-of-the-art specialist programs, compatible and inter-communicating. This is the road chosen by Interstudio, for the following good reasons:
How to deal with the crazy parameters of the ‘Old World’ buildings
80% of architectural work in Europe is done on old buildings. This is undoubtedly also the case in any country with an architectural heritage of buildings made of stone or other durable material, of equal or greater importance than any new construction work .
This means working with an incredible variety of non-standard construction elements. Some architectural CAD programs attempt to solve this by increasing the number of parameters, but it is a hopeless struggle, because the number of construction elements is infinite and it is near impossible to cover all eventualities. So the parameter problem becomes a real obstacle to the architect.
Designers can now choose between Domus.Cad Std and Domus.Cad Pro.
Domus.Cad Pro is a complete BIM program, integrated with other programs to manage an entire project, with specialist functions to optimize and save time and simplify operations. For example, Domus.Cad Pro communicates seamlessly with other programs. It has powerful specialist functions, such as automatic creation of tables of demolished/rebuilt areas, entire wooden structures, complex spiral and helical stairs and much more.
Domus.Cad Std is not the classic ‘Light’ software, only there to boost sales of the more complete version. It is a program with all the functions a designer needs to create complete and complex projects, with total control of 2D and 3D aspects. It does not have some of the automatic functions, so here the designer will have to use the program’s more generic functions, which will take a little more time. This is for you if you don’t need to do internal computations, export to DOCFA for the Italian Land Registry or model terrain. Otherwise, Domus.Cad Std lets you use all the other functions at less than half the price of Domus.Cad Pro.
No more numbers – we had reached version 16 – we’re starting at 1 of Domus.Cad Pro, where Pro stands for Professional, as opposed to the version Std (Standard), also being released.
Lots of new features that make Domus.Cad increasingly the best professional architecture and parametric program for architects worldwide.
Domus.Cad Std has what you need, minus some Domus.Cad Pro functions that are not strictly necessary for drawing.
